Scholastic Records "The Haunted House…" (1970), "The Teeny Tiny Woman" (1968), "Georgie" (1968), "Georgie And The Noisy Ghost" (1980)

A roundup of spooky singles from the venerable Scholastic Records label mentioned a post ago, these date from 1968 to 1980. They’re all as tame as you might expect, but also likely to conjure up some memories if you grew up sometime within their time frame. As a kid I also had the “Haunted House” book that the selections on this 7″ come from, and still think that “It isn’t the cough that carries you off, it’s the coffin they carry you off in.” is pretty damn clever.

Note: It’s not a mistake, both “The Teeny Tiny Woman” and “Georgie” really do have the same flipside (a collection of “Mother Ghost Nursery Rhymes & Other Tricks & Treats”).

    Hey Jason,
These rock the haunted house! Do you ever plan on posting anything from disney, like trick or treat or the haunted mansion stuff?

I dunno actually — aren’t they supposed to be nutjobs when it comes to file sharing & stuff?

This fellow has the 1962 Thrilling Chilling Sounds lp though, as well as the 1979 version. So perhaps I’m wrong.

Thanks, Jason! That’s the version of Georgie from my childhood. And thanks a lot for hosting the files locally, rather than through rapidshare – I hate having to wait an hour between downloads.

    More fantastic stuff, thank you!!!

I hope you get to the BBC sounds of Horror lp’s. I really need the first one. I have MORE SOUNDS but never grabbed the first one, and I feel all empty inside without it. Plus all that great Monster Mashy music I pray for at night. (Monster Rally) *wink*

P.s. the no Rapidshare is great!!!

Jason, all these posts are awesome! Scholastic’s “Haunted House” is a longtime favorite – the “Dust” segment and “something walked along the stair/something that is and isn’t there” have stuck with me forever. Thanks!

Excellent; thanks everyone. Still more ongoing thanks to SeΓ±or Strange Reaction for hosting the files as well.

Jason, You wouldn’t by chance have a copy of The Fuzztones’ “Monster-a-Go-Go” would you?

That’s one I’d like to feature at the next Halloween Party

it looks like fun stuff, but the one used copy I find on-line is rather pricy.

All I have off it is the single “Happy Halloween”.

I did some years ago, but sure if I do anymore. I’ll give it a look (I have most of the originals of the songs they cover on there for sure though.)

    Another great post, Jason.
That Scholastic record really brings back memories!
Cool to see that you’ve partnered up with Strange Reaction, who is a living saint.

    doltor viktor von kreep,

I do have the Trick Of Treat LP. I just haven’t made a page of it yet.

As for the “nutjobs” you are correct jason. I just decided a long time ago that if they can’t make their product available outside their damn theme parks (that as a disabled person I can’t afford or manuever through very easily) then screw it, I will.

The pages aren’t downloadable files which helps a little I think.

BTW – I just found a third Georgie record that I’ll share once I receive it in. It’s called “Georgie And The Robbers”:

I got Georgie & the Robbers. It looks like a 45 but its 33-1/3 RPM. I remeber because I was too stupid as a kid to flip the player to the right speed. I also got The Haunted House… but its companion book has tons more stuff than its 7in. Maybe there’s more audio out there!
    The Superstitious Ghost…

Each dawn I cower down in bed,
    In every brightness seeing,
That weird uncanny form of dread-
    An awful Human Being!

Great stuff! Someone recommended to me that I could maybe find “The Ghost of John” on your site, but I am not finding it. Do you know what I am talking about? If so, help a girl out! I would love to hear it again. Thanks!

Okay, I found a version of it on the Teeny Tiny Woman album- unfortunately, it is not the one that I remember. The one I heard as a girl was sung by a man and was much creepier, less show tune. Any idea where I might find that version? Thanks!

I was just thrilled to see Georgie–I have written to Scholastic to see if there is any chance for a reissue, because I loved this record growing up. I wasn’t able to open the page or download it, if that’s what you have available, but good to see it.

Help! I’m trying to find an old record that came out about the same time as Haunted House record. It is about a Blood Banshee breaking into a room and eating terrified children. Lots of laughs from a long time ago!!
