While all collections are intrinsically autobiographical, since I'm not a true "collector" (i.e. I've never purchased or traded these things; this is more an illustration of packrattery) it's probably extra easy to trace my life & interests through these galleries. They start out in Kansas (most of the early non-Lawrence/ KC ones were sent to me either by people ordering copies of my zine or by a few pals of mine who had run away to CA), and as I move around in life the bands & venues change accordingly: Kansas, Ohio, Washington DC, Kansas again, Arizona. After 1994 most of the flyers start to center around the various bands I was playing in (The Weird Lovemakers, Rocket #9, The Gobs, The Knockout Pills), and offer a much more limited range of subject matter as a result. A few notes/ plans: • Eventually I'd like to add metadata, tags, stories, links to sound files (for the shows I taped), as well as scans of related interviews I did with some of these bands for my 'zine back in the early/ mid 80's (Iron Cross, The Dicks, Black Flag, The Freeze, Husker Du, Dead Kennedys, Adrenalin O.D., etc etc). • For now there are some ticket stubs, set lists & random goofy letters mixed in, but that may change as I enlarge/ refine the scope of it all. I edited very little from my archive (only for repetition really), figuring the extra things here & there could only help add context. • Many of the early flyers might look familiar to more observant folks as I loaned several to Mike Blur back around '98 for his cool online flyer archive. Okay, thanks for looking & have fun. Jason (contact: aWealthyPatronOfTheArts AT yahoo DOT com) |
